  1. i use 10w50 in both machines. The curtis valve you posted is for the airplane rotax engines. that would probably be different than what i am running, judging by the pic, it is for sure different. I am not aware of anything developed for the v twin engines, only the 900ace engine to this point. steve
  2. i hve used the brp oil in my stuff since 2019. now that i have a curtis valve on the x3, i do not plan to buy that kit anymore as i do not need the crush washers and the prices have went pretty high for 4 quarts of oil and a filter. i bought a bunch of BRP filters in bulk for both and will be running mobil one, amsoil, or something else synthetic in them. as long as it is the right weight and full synthetic, it will be good to change once a season in my opinion. I dont drive them hard, dont put thousands of miles on a year, and dont go through a lot of water. we run 5k miles in our cars with synthetic running higher rpms all the time, these engines dont see that much abuse, or at least mine dont. 1k over a summer and the oil still comes out yellow sometimes. LOL steve
  3. welcome to the group! steve
  4. the tech is cool but is still expensive. im starting to get to the point of just wanting to drive it and not have to mess with more screens while doing what i enjoy. i am behind a computer for 9-10 hours a day, on my phone for a couple hours after work, have a tablet in the defender and x3 already for mapping and blue tooth to run my speaker. that is enough screen time for me. while all of the modes and such are cool, the simple button press to select the mode is nicer to me. steve
  5. For the smart shock version it's 45k I think. Definitely only a desert and dune machine at 78". It's set up for that anyways. Steve
  6. It's not until later tonight. Live show at 6:30cst Steve
  7. my xt does not allow for a compartment under the drivers seat, i dont think. at least i havent come across one. the passenger side and rear seats flip up and allow for the container to be put in though. the container is great, i have 2 of them in mine. one holds my wifes stuff under her seat, the other is in in the back seat and has straps, my tool kit, extra belt, and some other stuff in it that stay with the machine all the time. its a great box for my use. steve
  8. all of us x3 owners are anxiously awaiting what the new machine is going to be. hopefully something cool! steve
  9. welcome- awesome ride, it looks just like mine with the half doors. they are a pain to get set but they are light and work well enough for what i need. what mounts are you using for the pods on the back? I have a set i want to wire up but havent found a mount and really havent decided to make my own yet either. steve
  10. That's why I haven't done my defender. It isn't necessary, in my opinion. I just did my x3 after too much reading on forums haha when I first got it Steve
  11. He is correct- they are sealed and are not recommended to be greased. Some of us take the next step and do them since they can be greased with a tool you can buy aftermarket that allows you to pump grease in the bearings from the middle where it is open. you have to pull the hub, slide the adapter greaser tool on the shaft like it would be the hub then pump grease in the opening in the middle of the bearing. you have to be careful when you do it so you dont over grease it and push the dust seals on the outsides off. Does greasing them help? maybe. i havent had trouble with any of them yet dont drive through a lot of mud either. we grease car hubs, axles, bearings etc. and almost nothing gets greased on these off road machines. i prefer to do as much greasing as i can, thus why i did my x3. i got lazy and didnt do my defender i suppose. it isnt just a quick thing to do, it is something you have to be committed to doing because you have to remove parts, torque stuff back down, etc. steve
  12. i feel like the winch should probably have its own power source/cable but i dont think that is what mine has going on... id have to check for sure to see where the dedicated winch setup is under the hood on the newer ones. steve
  13. im with steel, no interest from me either. i have an x3 and the hd10 xt max now, they are enough work, maintenance and expense to have sitting a lot more than id like them to be this year. i have 500 miles on between the 2 of them which is very low. hopefully as it cools off a bit, i can at least start driving them a bit more. i dont need to worry about a steel belt, having a cargo area, or messing with overlanding. the really big one is over 3k# so it is out for WI trail systems. It looks like wi took the CC limit out of the picture as long as they are less than 3k# and 65" or less, so that lets some of the bigger machines on the trails. atvs hate sxs/utv most of the time saying that they are too wide and such. that is their problem though. we cant camp in most places along a trail either, they have to be designated camp grounds or in some state forest lands to be camping off grid. the only thing i miss from my atv- wheelies! LOL steve
  14. welcome to the group! leds are nice for the headlights. the sxs is the cheap part, the parts are the big $$ steve
  15. there are quite a few people on facebook that use the badlands winches with decent luck. bumpers, lots of those around. i like the one that came on my xt, it does what i need. has plenty of holes in it for lights, etc. as well. i have 2 pods in the middle of mine and plenty of room for other lights as well. cant help on the radio steve
  16. im running 28 x 10 x 14s all the way around, they are a little narrow in the back and could use some spacers but it keeps the mud from getting too far up the sides so i leave it. love my x comps, other than that they are little heavy. steve
  17. jakes forward arms for the fronts, should be able to find some stuff on them on fb or a website. they might fit after that in the front, if not, youll need some portals. probably best to check out the builds section here and on some of the defender fb groups to see what guys are building. steve
  18. congrats, welcome and enjoy the new machine! steve
  19. sounds like it needs some rings and a piston (at least, if not a hone) if there is enough fuel mixed into the oil that it is running out when you take the cap off, it has severe blow by. start with check compression to see if it is 120+ psi or not but doubtful it is over 80-90psi. if it does come out ok, you can go other directions but most likely rings. Do a leak down test as well to confirm if the compression looks good. could also be a stuck valve but that wouldnt pollute the oil with raw fuel. maybe a seal or something that is out could be a culprit as well, for fuel leaking into the crankcase. steve
  20. The bypass is handy for driving around the yard when you are in and out a lot but don't want to have the belt behind you. Steve
  21. fuse blown, worn through wire, bad ground, bad battery, or bad battery connections steve
  22. welcome to the site! seat belt bypass https://www.amazon.com/Commander-Defender-Maverick-Connector-Accessories/dp/B086WPGQYC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=can+am+seat+belt+bypass&qid=1683042858&sprefix=can+am+seat+bel%2Caps%2C128&sr=8-3 this seems decent, like andy said youll have to watch the box twisting https://leadersrpmshop.com/can-am-new-oem-branded-defender-cargo-bed-winch-support-base-included-715006355/ something like this would be up out of the box and on the cage https://www.sidebysidesports.com/rafabcadegal.html steve
  23. i think there have been a couple home made type setups around but nothing from any purchasable mfg yet that i know of. Not sure if that link will work for people who arent in the group but that is the best one i have seen so far. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2560749027536049/posts/3428405570770386/ steve
  24. I see you are trying to sell it, where are you located? my bad, thought it was a promo post with all of the posted details copied. With only 1 post, you are going to need some good info to back it up so it isnt suspicious. steve
