Anyone try and adjust the front upper seat to make it a little more comfortable? They stick straight up and it seems like if it was pushed out some on the lower half it would be more comfortable

I've got over 1000 miles on mine. Never had any back pain.

Well, as a retired home builder I have my share of lower back pain. I thought in the beginning sitting that upright would be CRAZY!!! But after a few 6 hour/100 mile days, those worries were put to rest. I sure hope you find something that works for mama... Happy wife, HAPPY LIFE!!

I have a gel seat pad I use on my Harley for the girlfriend. We out it in the defender for her when her back acts up, it works well.
