My wife sewed this from vinyl and it is held in place by a drawstring on the inside. The vinyl itself will offer protection from the small rocks and bugs etc. but eventually I will line it with the thin plastic packing box stuff when I accumulate the right thickness etc probably 1/8" to 1/4".(2 small sheets on window now) Just lay it on the open window before putting on the cover.
