Just a heads up I have these and they are much better than the standard halogen so far they

are working out just fine.  Less than $100 Canadian for the two sets on Amazon.

I ended up buying these as well. Super bright and $60 total. Well worth it and an awesome upgrade. The stock bulbs suck, can am should def upgrade them

  2. I’m from PA I live outside philly in Chester county.  Don’t have time to do much riding away from home but have been up to the anthracite coal property in Pottsville. I’ve never heard of rock run I am gonna look it up.

  3. Thanks for sharing. Will be cool to follow along with your build! I’m also thinking a lift and bigger tires at some point but prob not any time soon.

Nice to see your whole family goes, my 2.5 year old son is obsessed with riding with me on it but my wife wants nothing to do with it haha. I took her around the neighborhood once and she won’t get back on.

  4. I bought the can am one.  Its not the robust one out there but it has steps, allows the bed to dump fully and will hit first if I back into anything.  Thats all I was looking for

DefenderXMR is right with the forward arms itll clear 30s and a few brands are priced pretty good ... if u want to go to 30s its definitely the best route ... but if cheapest route is what ur looking for 28s bone stock is great... and ur not adding much weight per tire and will work perfect with stock clutching.. 30s puts u in an area of possibly needing clutching some get away with it but others dont like the touch of power loss from the added tire weight and rotation and seek clutching to get the bikes stock or touch over stock power back

Yeah I think I will prob end up doing 28's and stiffening up the suspension.  Hoping I end up liking these big horns and that upgrade can be a few years down the road and not now

Funny to hear u say that... cause i have actually been thoroughly impressed with them ... only down fall is 6 ply ... but i have 1300 miles on mine and they are still over 80% tread easy ... we had the snowiest winter in Missouri we had in years with one being 17 inches around our county and couldn't believe how well they did and u know the sloppy mud was bound to come once the snow melted and the big horns just couldn't be stopped ... but when ready to replace I'm goin to look into the ITP blackwater evolutions in 28s because there similar to the bighorns in that there a non directional and more versatile for the rocks ,mud ,snow and road riding we do but there 8 plys to give me a little better peace of mind when in the creeks around here to not slice a tire open .... big plus with the itp's is u can get them in our defender factory widths 28" tall to use on our stock wheels ... but I may buy 28x10x14s all they way around with new 14x7 wheels ( have to run 1.5" or 2" spacer in rear to allow tires to track the same )  the benefits of that route is the ability to rotate ur tires for longer tire life .........

And in my opinion as long as ur not wanting clearance for some serious mud riding ... tightening ur shocks up for that taller stance and 1" bigger than stock tires is the way to go ... keep low center of gravity for ur trails and cornering plus ur defenders axles , joints and drivetrain will thank u and keep running flawlessly for miles and miles

I’m happy to read this. My dissappoint needs to be tempered by the fact that I have only put 20 miles on them. It has all been around my house doing work or taking my son for slow rides. My disappointment is they seem to cake up so easily in the wet top soil in the woods. I get I’m not doing fast so this might not be a fair criticism but I didn’t have as much of a problem with my outlanders tires. On Saturday they were caked up and I rode through a small patch of mud and the imedialty were completely caked and were like racing slicks and I damn near got stuck. This is not heavy mud, I could get through it in 2 wheel drive with my outlander. I almost ordered new tires on Saturday and listed these for sale but held off. Going to wait til I go to the mountains for a full ride before I make the final decision.  Your review has def made me more comfortable with the big horns  I was existed for them when I bought the machine as I always heard great things about the big horns.

Yeah I think cranking up the factorie shocks is the right way to go. I’m not really a lift guy just thought maybe bigger tires would help with traction. I also have my plow set up that I don’t feel like trying to retro fit a bunch to accommodate the new height.

  7. Stapleton thanks for the info. I think that may be the best option, tighten up the shocks and go to 28” tires. I’m really dissappointed so far with the big horn tires that came with the machine.

  8. Has anyone put a lift on their defender or have any experience with lifting other side by sides.  I just want a small 2 or 3" lift so that I can hopefully put 28" or 30" tires on my defender.  Is bracket or suspension spacer the way to go?  Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  9. I have not, I have and HD8 and it has plenty of power for me.  The dealership told me most of the difference in the HD10 vs 8 is in the top end, and comparing the torque i feel like that is probably mostly true.

  10. Yeah I’m new to side by sides so I’m not sure what I want. I have been told by others though it gets hot with a windshield in the summer. I’m not sure if the ones with the built-in vents at the bottom will be cool enough. That’s why I’ve been leaning towards the foldable.

  11. Believe it or not the brakes pads are probably cooked. Can am is notorious for crap brake pads. My 2013 outlander’s didn’t last 175 miles. When I picked up the defender I asked the dealer if they had improved the brake pads and they said no they still go quick.

  12. Thanks for the info. If you find something else please let me know. I think I’m gonna try the one I sent you. I’m also afraid the flip up or one onto the hood will get ripped off. I’m tall so I’m hoping it’s not too much a nuisance.

  13. I am also looking for a windshield so am interested in seeing others opinions.  I live in PA so i need it for the cold too but also would like one that folds down/up quickly.  My concern with the one you linked too is with the way it lays on the hood getting caught on branches. I found this one

    https://www.amazon.com/2016-2018-CAN-AM-DEFENDER-POLYCARBONATE-WINDSHIELD/dp/B07B8Q22D4/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1DRZJALK7YSSL&keywords=defender+windshield&qid=1552929549&s=automotive&sprefix=defender+wind%2Cautomotive%2C128&sr=1-7

I like that it folds down on itself like a golf cart.  Can't find much on them though.  And they seem to have mixed reviews.

  14. Picked up the Kolpin universal chainsaw mount. They recommend the accessories rail to attach it but I found the quad boss quick connect fasteners on UTV direct. Was able to attach it using those fasteners in the linq receivers in the bed. Worked well and held it solid. Ended up spending a little over $70 for the mount and fasteners. Figured I would share in case anyone else is looking.

It definitely looks nice and heavy, I should have got it instead of the flexplow

you're not happy with the flex plow?  I was in between and saw almost all positive reviews on the poly (conversely couldn't find much of anything on the super duty good or bad).

    How’s the plow

Only used it on one storm so far but it was great. Love the way it comes on and off, super easy. It seems very well made and is very heavy which is great for back dragging heavy wet snow which is what we get most of the time. Only flaw was the attachment point for the winch cable (regular problem with most brands) but I rigged up that pulley and connecected it back to the bumper so hopefully no cable breaks!

That looks like a good solid setup.  Thanks for posting up that information, I'm sure it will help someone else researching plows.   How long does it take to warm the machine up to good operating temps under those weather conditions? What part of the country are you located?

Yeah I am very happy with the set up so far thanks.    I am about an hour outside Philadelphia in PA.  It wasn't that cold for this storm it was in the low 30's and my garage was prob in the mid 40's so I drove it out and just let it idle for about 5 minutes or so and figured that was good.  Can't wait to see how it does in a larger storm, didn't even need four wheel drive for this one.
