Welcome to the forum. I don't know about the rattling sound, try to put the unit into 4x4 mode and see if it does the same thing?

The thermostat should be fully open at 190F and the fan is set to come on at 205F and turn off at 198F so that puts you into a normal operating range. Check the antifreeze fill bottle and see if the cap is on correctly. There is an overtemp light on your dash and may even be a beeping sound to catch your attention, which I haven't heard yet?

The gas tank is equipped with inlet check valve that lets air into the system as you use fuel and lets air out if the pressure exceeds 1.1 psi. On my outlander quad I get a sound that sounds like letting air out of a balloon when you pinch the neck. If I ride the quad when it is hot out this sound comes on almost as soon as I stop and baffled me for quite a while until I loosened the filler cap and made the connection. I don't know if the Defender is similar but something you can check?

    Enjoy your ride.🤔

Thanks Andy I'll check out the things you mentioned. The sound I'm hearing in relation to the temp does sound exactly like you described, letting the air out of a ballon.

  2. Love my XT-P so far but have a couple of issues that I wondering if anyone else has had. When ease off the throttle I have a loud annoying vibration rattle at around 13-15 mph. Sounds like metal to metal rattle and I have check all heat Shields on the engine and don't find any loose one. Sounds like it coming from the right side.

Also, when I come to a stop I hear a whistle sound coming from engine area but then the coolant fan will kick on and it stops. Temp showing 199-201 and no high temp indicator showing on dash. Not sure if the Defender has an audible high temp alarm and this sounds more like a hot radiator whistling sound than an electronic alarm sound.

Only have 13 mIles on it and will be taking to my dealer after we are released from this self quarantine but thought maybe someone has had similar issues.

Welcome Okie556!  I'm guessing you're just north across the Red River from me here in TX?  I agree with you 100% on installing the rubber strip around the perimeter of the SuperATV glass.  My thumbs were sore for days!

Post some pics when you get a chance.

Thank you sir but actually I'm in Longview, TX. Born and raised in Oklahoma and the Okie handle was given to me in Vietnam and I use it on most Forums.

    AWESOME!!! Can't wait to see!!

Got it in and on but covered it back up after riding and forgot to take a picture. Instructions were about useless and hardest part was getting the rubber strip around the edge of the entire glass. Fit was good and towed at 70 mph with no issue. Of course I do have the full automotive glass  front windshield.

I’ve got a 2019 hunting edition with front glass window and rear glass window, so far I’ve towed it a couple hundred miles on an open trailer and have had no issues with the rear window, I’ve got no doors what so ever either

Thank you sir. I don't have any doors either and it will be a while before I order them. I am going ahead and order a rear window and give it a try.

if you have the front windshield installed I don't think it makes a difference in the rear windshield.  I installed the Super ATV plexiglass rear window just because that was the only "hard" window I could find that fit the Xmr and that trailered just fine at freeway speeds.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I full glass front is curved pretty good and should keep a lot of air just going over the top.

  9. Just traded in my 2018 General G2 for a 2020 HD 10 XT-P. Loving it so far and the wife us happy now that we can talk to each other and be heard over the engine noise. I had dealer install the automotive glass tip out front windshield and now looking for a rear windshield. Plenty out there to choose from but I am concerned with hauling the Defender on an open trailer with a full rear windshield. So far I haven't been able to find one that folds down and do not want to remove every time I haul it. Any suggestions?
