  1. I thought I had finally completed my project. I have added to my HD5: - Bumper light bar - Roof light bar - Rear lights - Dome light - Winch Everything was working perfectly with all accessories, except the winch, connected to either the busbar at the top of the cage or the one under the dash. i then added a multimeter from Mictuning. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01K75Q4MU/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Voltage reading was correct but I knew that the wattage was wrong because the reading of a bar measured at home was way too low. While attempting to correct the wiring I lost all power at both busbars of my 2017 HD5. I have tested all the relays and fuses located in the box under the hood and the ones in the box to the left of the battery. Everything appears to be fine. Checked the repair and maintenance manual available on line and found nothing. Tried to find a more detailed manual to no avail. Search forums, googled and found nothing I have the complete electrical wiring diagram but that doesn’t help because it doesn’t show where things are I realize that most of you have HD10 and that those are different but just knowing that there is a third box to look for or telling me what I might have overlooked would be greatly appreciated PS I have contacted BRP but do not expect much.
  2. The shifting issue is a major one with my HD5. When I bought my machine there was a shifting issue. When the seller agreed to reduce the price by $2,000, on the advice of my brother-in-law I bought it thinking that this could be fixed for less than $2,000. I had the local dealer inspect everything and he made the adjustment required. Soon enough I started having shifting issues. Often I can’t put the machine in gear, any gear including park. My solution is to leave the shifter wherever it is and press the gas. I only need to get it moving for about 6 inches until I hear the transmission engaging properly. After that I can shift to any gear I want. I only have to make sure I don’t stop close to anything that would prevent me from moving forward or backward. The other problem that this shifter issue has caused me is the ability to start the engine The shifter looks at if in the park position but when you look at the display you can tell that it isn’t . Once you know, not really a problem Going to the dealer to have it adjusted again was not very tempting. They couldn’t do it the first time and I had another dealer say that the Can Am rock can be a solution. Our cottage is on an island. Getting to the dealer and back is a two day proposition. Other than that my HD5 is great, the king of the island. It allowed us to get to the cottage with ease during last year’s flood. What we call mud is different than what we see on YouTube, it is closer to clay. Didn’t get stuck even pulling a loaded trailer. Our primary vehicle used to be a golf cart and we would use our garden tractor to pull our trailer. The HD5 has changed the way we work/fix things. Thanks to all the storage, I have the three bins that go under the seats, I always have the tools and other gear to do most jobs. The Gator owner cannot say the same. Actually this would apply to almost all side-by-side. Nothing really compares to a Defender when it comes to storage. I would have like to get an 8 and more power but this would have cost me an additionnel $6/7K and I would have had to drive more than16 hours to get to and back from Rimouski. I couldn’t justify that. The only thing that it can do so far, is getting my boat out of the water. I just go get the JD Tractor for that. I apologize for being so long. The last paragraph is more intended for those considering buying a Defender.
  3. 715001124 is the part number of a lockable gas cap on Can Am’s website. hope this solves your problem Glad to see that I am not alone thinking that an HD5 can be powerful enough for most uses
  4. This year I am adding a lift kit (possibly even more flooding), a winch and lights. Wiring rocker switches is my problem I have visited I don’t know how many sites and watched how many YouTube video, I haven’t been able to figure out where to wire the pin that is on the bottom right so that switches are illuminated when I turn the driving lights on. I have read about connecting to instrument light panel wiring. No clue where to look. Since I won’t have access to my machine until April I can’t search for it and since it it is located on an island I need to have everything on hand once I get there. Can someone tell me how to wire this properly?
  5. Last spring I bought a 2017 used DefenderDPS HD-5. One of my best purchases. As a result of high water level on Lake Ontario we wouldn’t have been to reach our cottage until July. Lots of water on trails and up to a foot of mud/clay in certain areas. MUDDER just plodded through it. An HD8 would have been nice but I really didn’t need to spend an extra $6K

My rig has a windshield with wiper, full bumper, roof, fenders, side panels (my own making) and the 3 baskets that fit under the bench
