  1. Experienced same issue. Showed dealer, they replaced front diff. No more noise. (But front diff also had issue with visco lok not engaging and making noise.
  2. Well, so far the replacement visco loc is working, so lets see how it goes from here. My dealership has been fantastic about getting it done and not fighting me on the issues. Some/a lot are not that easy to deal with.
  3. Good idea….I just got the buggy back and the replacement front diff seems to be working as advertised.
  4. Got the buggy back (quick turnaround-only a day to swap it out once they got the part). Will go test this weekend. I will most likely get the halo locker once the warranty runs out -depending on the durability of the replacement visco-lok.
  5. I wouldn’t worry about engine damage. But sadly, if the fuses were wrong, what else could be put in wrong? See what the dealer will do to ‘go over’ your machine. After that, learn to go thru it and verify fuses, fluids etc….
  6. Yeah, SATV a pin locker like the HALO. Where is the SATV locker made? I would sway to the HALO for the fact that they are USA made. Side note…..my other Yamaha Viking is a solid locker, my 2000 TJ has ARB lockers and the Polaris Ranger has the cage locker-but total front diff lock. I read where people are complaining about broken shafts from the torque, but I know how to run that set up. Have to be easy on the skinny pedal on rocks, and you don’t steer well on solid surfaces.
  7. We’re you in 4wd? If so, did you notice if the non spinning wheel engaged? Sounds like the front diff/pinion gear. See my post and watch the video.
  8. Ok, since getting the 2021 Defender back (see previous thread) I am now able to run my trails. Everything from rock crawls to mud hills, mud holes and general flat riding. So, long story short, I stuck the Defender in total mud and when the visco tried to lock up the other axle, it sounds like a bag of hammers in a dryer…this can’t be good. Then I take to my Little Rock stair step and I hear the same thing….and so it goes. Also went to an area that I can get a wheel off the ground and one in a large trench. Again, doesn’t sound good. Showed the video of me in the situations and the dealer tech agreed, the pinion gears/front diff is toast. This rig has less than 450 miles on it and I don’t hammer it. (I have two other buggies with 5k and 2.5k miles on them-so I don’t beat on them. Anyway, they have submitted it for warranty and will be covered, just waiting on parts but I have the buggy. Was researching on the inner webs and see two routes for aftermarket ‘fixes’ for the viso-lok habits. I don’t necessarily like the fact I have to have the spinning wheel rotate before the other engages and then becomes 4wd. Also it seems that eventually all visco-lok’s crap out at some point. So, at some point I will be swapping the front diff out. Most likely for the TORQ locker but don’t want to take a new warrantied front diff and disable/remove the visco guts. Guess I will find a ‘used’ one and put the TORQ locker in it and swap it in the Defender.   9. Voltage regulator tested good….glue failed in starter. Guess the stator was junk from get go. Figure the battery failed due to not charging
  10. Issues are being resolved now, but here is a story for ya. Defender purchased in April timeframe, has 383 miles on it. My wife and I went up on my property to ride around on a Sunday evening. On about the third stop, I attempted to start up the buggy again and nothing….display shows PPS error. Crap. So had to walk a mile down hill in open front flip flops (broke my rule of boots when riding). Got my other buggy to rescue my wife. Came home to finish off my beers, researched code. Hmmmm, check for loose battery connection. Woke up at midnight, decided it wouldn’t be prudent to wake up the wife for my need to get the buggy rolling again. So, day came and I rode up hill and opened up the battery compartment and dang, loose terminals. Tightened up connections, used my Schumacher Red Power jump pack to start buggy. Yep, started right up and brought it home to charge it. Next day the batter is fully charged. Tuesday, rode up on hill and no issues. Wednesday rolls around and took a work associate up for a ride around and after about an hour the buggy just dies while riding down a hill. Same code…PPS error and the battery terminals are tight. After walking home up and down hill, I got my starter pack again and went to buggy. Won’t start the buggy this time…Double crap. Swapped out new battery with 10 yr old Odyssey AGM battery and it starts. Brought buggy home, took battery to dealership (couldn’t take buggy due to my truck being used by wife for week). Battery charged and tested to confirm it is bad. When using the old battery, I put the display on ‘battery’ to determine if it was charging…no dice. Seems the stator not charging the battery. Brought buggy to dealership on Saturday to verify (and for them to troubleshoot) electrical system. Yes, they determined the stator was junk (visibly burnt and smelled) so they ordered a stator. Stator came in a few days later. After they put in the stator, the starter wouldn’t turn over the engine. Quit working…Hmmm. Worked when I brought it in. They ordered a new starter but Can Am didn’t bless it yet. Shop bench tested and yes, it’s bad. Shop took it apart. It seem the glue came off the starter housing and the magnet jammed the windings/motor. Can Am ok’d the replacement. Shop put in the new starter and everything back together, still won’t start. Really?!?!!!. I was at shop at every stated milestone above and the tech explained what he was doing (he was also in contact with Can Am support). Now, I wasn’t upset or micro managing, I just wanted to see why I have a 27K (paid cash) boat anchor that only has 383 miles on it. When I came to shop, I brought pizza and breakfast-every one appreciates a thank you like that. Ok…It’s Saturday now an the new starter won’t turn. More calls to tech line and….bingo. Seems the tech used his normal approach to sealing the case-used Locktite SI 5910. Note:( almost all other motorcycle companies use their version of this, i.e. Yamabond, Hondabond) Well, Can Am doesn’t. They use a gasket. So by not using the factory gasket, the tolerance was too tight and the case-when using sealant, will bind the stator shaft. So….gasket is on order, have to wait a few more days for the repair. Unreal how this all went down but thankful it should be over sometime this week. Tech offered to make a gasket but I wanted it back to factory specs. I mean I made it this far, what another day or two. Been three weeks by the way. Just wanted to share with the community, just in case you have similar issues.   11. Well, it’s on the can am system at my local dealer as “under warranty”. I hope it works.
  12. Mmmm, ok. I will have to go look at clearances. The middle seat flips up and our Yeti 16 soft cooler sits perfectly in there. I use the passenger seat storage box as well, but could take it out for a subwoofer I guess. Driver seat is stationary. Would be nice to have a sub, but not necessary I guess.
  13. So, I’m contemplating a stereo set up….RF PMX2 (when they become available) and four speakers…..where is the world would I put a sub woofer? I don’t want to take up any room…..any ideas? Thanks, Steve

  17. Eh, they called me the next day and said they only had two of them….went with a set of ITP Blackwater Evolution tires. Tread looks really good. Put them on tonight.
  18. Rides like a dream. Wife loves it (most important). It is very well built. Put on some ITP Blackwaters tonight. Will go riding on my property later this weekend. Also got a Magellan GPS for tracking the off property trails we will go on.

  20. As many different answers as their are owners....but for me, I use the OE oils and filters. Small price to pay to keep supporting local dealer. They designed it and back it for warranty.
  21. Only have about 150 miles on Defender now, pulled the trigger on a set of Pit Bull Rocker Ubers. Found them at Discount tire. Ordered stock sizes (+.5) as they run large anyway and they are definitely heavier than the bighorns. I run the same tires on my other two buggies and they are not worn out. They go great in all terrains (east coast-sloppy & rocky). I figured I would get them before they run out. I called Pit Bull and they explained they pulled the tire molds from their US supplier due to supply and other issues. I believe they said they want another US supplier. They will be coming back (from China) under their other brand (Braven Off Road). Currently they are on perpetual hold due to shipping issues (increase in freight cost). All I know is they are bad ass tires and no issues with punctures. Anyway, just wanted to update the community.

    Just dropping a line from WV. Just got a 2021 Defender Limited. (Also have two other buggies-2010 Polaris and a 2014 Yamaha Viking). The Defender is AMAZING. Anyway, I have 200 acres with 7.5 miles of trails to ride and maintain. So far I have added two front light sets and one in the rear, fender flares and rear bumper. If anyone lives near Cabell county, come on down and ride!
  23. From my understanding, Apple is getting ready to announce a ‘tracking’ product. It would be like the ‘find my phone’ app. Wouldn’t think it would be a recurring charge, but I have no clue. I will prolly get one for my dump trailer.
  24. I have a 2010 Polaris Ranger 800xp Browning Edition that was originally manual steering. That thing was a nightmare to turn-trust me. I added power steering and it is now very manageable (used aftermarket kit-complete bear to put in). My 2014 Yamaha Viking has power steering and works as advertised. I just bought a 2021 Defender Limited and it is the Jaguar of SXS’s. In all ways, shapes and forms. So....the steering is wonderful.
